October 25, 2006

SCIS is looking for student volunteers and performers for SCIS International Food Night to be held at the end of Semester (Friday 3rd November). Any students with hidden musical or dance talents wishing to be part of the lavish entertainment for the night should contact Leisa Armstrong at {l.armstrong} at [ecu.edu.au]

Please join in to make this night a success, the more input from students the better the night will be. An invitation also goes out to any brave staff members who wish to be part of the entertainment.

Also, bring in a dish from your country to share with others. It is a pot-luck kind of event at the staff room in building 13 on the Mount Lawley Campus.

October 25, 2006

I have received the following from the Western Australian Muslim Eid Festival (WAMEF) Organizers by email:

Assalamu alaikum Brothers and Sisters

Alhamdulillah we are pleased to organise the biggest Eid Festival yet!  We hope to give our children something to remember, and so they don’t feel like they miss out when they see the non-Muslims have the Perth Show etc.

This year we will have lots of exciting rides, camels, animal farm, show bags (all contents halal and ‘Muslim Friendly’) and lots of yummy food and drinks, and some great stalls where you will find quality Eid gifts, clothes, Islamic books and DVD’s and many other great products.  There will also be Henna Art, Face Painting, and a qualified beauty therapist.  The best part is getting to see all of your Muslim friends in one place!

On the day you will be able to purchase an ‘All Day Pass’ for the rides: $25 for the big kids area and $15 for the little kids area

BUT if you buy your All Day Pass now, you will save!  $20 for big kids and $10 for little kids.

Please contact Sr. Nusaybah to purchase your day pass early.  9258 9089 or 0415 128 860.

Eid Mubarak Everyone

October 22, 2006

Eid Mubarak to everyone no matter what day you  are celebrating it! On one hand, Perth Mosque said on Juma’a prayer that Eid will be on Tuesday. On the other hand, according to moonsighting.com:

The Mufti of Australia (Sheikh Taj UlDeen Alhilaly) has announced that Monday is the first day of Shawal (Eid-ul-Fitr) in-shaa-Allah based on the calculations. This means the main mosques and the majority of Muslims in Australia will have their Eid on Monday in-shaa-Allah.

Please feel free to post your thoughts and comments on the subject (including congratulations for Eid!)

UPDATE: IslamicSydney.com says:

In Australia the situation is similar with communities and mosques that are following the calculation method celebrating Eid on Monday, while those that follow physical moon sighting will most likely be celebrating Eid on Tuesday, with a possibility of it being Wednesday. IslamicSydney.com will be compiling a list of prayer venues and times in Sydney, updating the information as we receive it.

Paradoxes

October 20, 2006

Cover your ears and listen to your own first witness.    Is there any God besides Allah(27,60)?

Close your eyes to darkness and see the light of Islam.    Is there any God besides Allah (27,61)?

Hold your tongue and utter Peace.    Is there any God besides Allah (27,62)?

Catch your breath and smell the fragrance of Faith.    Is there any God besides Allah (27,63)?

Spit out your unbelief and taste the sweetness of Belief.    Is there any God besides Allah (27,64)?

Numb  your mind and feel the Presence.    What God is there other than Allah (28,71)?

Forget everything and remember who you are.     Is there any God besides Him (28,72)?

Say La ilaha illal Allah and find Success.    And call not besides Allah any other God (28,88)

Bow down and you will be elevated.     Is God not Sufficient for His slaves (39,36)?

Hasten your patience and wait, then flee to Him.    Is God not Sufficient for His slaves (39,36)?
