Like countless millions before you, you must have asked yourself such
questions as: Who am I? Where do I come from? What am I doing in this
world? Where do I go from here, from this seemingly earth bound
existence, and what is my purpose, if any?

These are questions about life and about the meaning and purpose of life.
These are questions about the universe and our place in it.

The answers you give to these questions help to shape your worldview.
Your worldview is not only the way in which you see and explain the
world and your place in it, but it affects the way you think and the
way you act or behave. Your worldview shapes the quality of your life.

In the long history of mankind, there have been many different
attempts at explaining the purpose of humankind. As believers in God,
Muslims have suggested that the purpose of man is to worship Allah
(God) , as mentioned in the following verse:

“…I have created humankind …  that they may worship me….”
(51, 56)

…does it then suggest that the Almighty is in need of our worship.
This, though, would be an obvious contradiction of the Islamic belief
in Allah being absolutely Self-sufficient, Independent and
Transcendent.

If, on the contrary, the answer be no, then it would seem that mankind
serves no purpose at all.

What then is the purpose of the creation of man?

Furthermore, if man was created for worship then why was he granted
the freedom to choose not to do so, and even to deny the very
existence of Allah himself?

What then is the nature of humankind and what, if anything at all,
makes us so unique?

How also are we to understand the nature of the relationship between
humankind and Allah?

The Hilaal of RAMADAAN 1430 has not been sighted in Sydney due to the cloudy weather, however, it has been sighted in Melbourne and Brisbane and other states on Friday the 21st of August, 2009. Therefore the Moonsighting Committee of Australia and Majlisul Ulamaa’ of Australia have declared that the month of RAMADAAN UL MUBAARAK 1430 will start from Saturday the 22nd of August, 2009. I wish to inform you that Ramadan Crescent has been just sighted in Melbourne, Brisbane and other part of Australia on 21st Aug 2009 Friday evening. Thus the Ramadan first day in Australia starting tomorrow 22nd Aug. 2009 Saturday.

In addition, Perth Mosque commences Ramadaan on Saturday as well based on calculations and Taraweeh prayer took place on Friday night.

The musallah in the Joondalup campus is operating efficiently,  albeit independantly. This is thanks to some interested and active brothers and sisters. Some of them are brothers Abdul Aziz, Irshaad, and Wahid just to name a few.

In the Mt Lawley campus, the situation is very disappointingly different. The musallahs are largely unkempt both the womens and mens. Furthermore the ML facilities are urgently in need of new furniture and monitoring.

What needs to be done is a meeting held to appoint or elect new members for the committee in order to manage both the facilities. It would be better to have a common body supervise both musallahs as there is a shortage of interested persons. Sister Hajira from the Mt Lawley campus is interested in activating the society and its function especially within Mt Lawley.

Rather then re-invent the wheel, it would be good idea to meet with interested members for a brief on the process.

Some of the things that could be achieved by an active executive committee are the following:

1. Affiliation to the guild which brings with it funding and free resource usage such as meeting rooms, lecture halls etc.

2. Improved  and upgraded facilities for the musallahs

3. Advocacy for all muslim students.

4. Activities

5. Community representation

All interested parties should contact me in order to convene a meeting to appoint or elect a new committee. All positions are vacant.

The turnout so far has been very encouraging and is convenient for students or locals who have difficulty getting to a masjid in the short time allocated.
Khutbah commences at 1.00pm and prayer commences at 1.20pm.
